William's Advice

Yes. Why don’t you briefly tell me about your situation and I’ll tell you what I can do?

That depends on what I have to do for you as your lawyer. Before determining the approximate cost of a file, I need to give you a “Consultation”.

A Consultation is an interview in which you tell me the details of your case and provide me any important documents that you may have. I answer  your questions and advise you of your rights and obligations.

The price of a Consultation depends on the complexity of the case but is normally around $350.00. This is paid in advance by e-transfer. The interview is not limited in time.  Its purpose is to determine what to do in order to resolve your situation.  After the Consultation you can decide whether you want to open a file with me.  At that time, I will be in a position to provide you an approximate cost of representing you as your lawyer.

I charge an hourly rate of $275.00. The number of hours will depend on what I have to do.  This can vary.  If all I have to do is negotiate a deal, then the number of hours should be minimal.  If I have to represent you in a trial, then the amount of time will increase. When I represent a client, I invoice them regularly so that they are always aware of how much the case is costing them. And, they are free to terminate my mandate at any time.

That depends on the nature of the case and on your willingness to negotiate an agreement. As a lawyer I always try to make a deal so that the client can avoid the time, emotional energy and costs involved in attending a trial.
